The second movement of Brahms' 3rd sonata for Violin and Piano is solemn and full with lush harmonic textures that support a gorgeous, but melancholic solo line. This arrangement adapts the piano part for a string orchestra and puts the solo violin part in the hands of the first violins. This work can be performed with full tutti strings or with a solo violin and string orchestra playing the remaining parts.
